Compensation of loss in natural habitats and species: guidelines
These guidelines provide legal background on Natura 2000 compensation, segments of good compensation measures and examples of good and bad nature loss compensation EU-wide. In general, the word "compensation" means balancing one action (or its effects) with another action. In nature conservation, compensation means balancing the negative effects in the environment with other activities that improve the state of the environment and restore its proper functions. The guidelines on compensation provided by Naturalists Club Poland and CEEweb for Biodiversity provide the detailed concept of compensation of the Nature Directives, its legal background and good and bad compensation practices from various EU countries.
