Mini sites
An explanation of how this site is organised and how mini-sites can be created
This site is organised as follows:
- Generic sections
These are top-level sections which are not sector-specific. These contain information of general relevance to all the socio-economic sectors featured. You can access these top-level sections using the tabs at the top of each screen (or by the main menu items in the navigation menu on the left). - Sector-specific 'mini-sites'
The main features of the top-level, generic sections are replicated within a series of sectoral 'mini-sites'. These are accessed via the 'Socio-economic sectors' link (tab at top of screen and main menu item on left of screen). You can also go direct to a sector mini-site using the list on the right of the screen. Within each mini-site, you can navigate sections using the menu tree on the left of the screen. The tabs across the top of the screen take you back to the generic sections of the site.
How can I set up a mini-site?
The mini-sites are intended to serve groups with common interests, such as socio-economic activities. It is envisaged that different socio-economic sectors such as tourism, forestry or water management could benefit from having a mini-site. To create a mini-site, you should contact the site's creator, Andrew Sier, to discuss your requirements.
Each mini-site has a common structure:
- Mini-site home page
- About Natura 2000 and the socio-economic sector
- Issue exchange - Share Natura 2000-related issues, solutions, questions and experiences via LinkedIn
- Case studies - a place to show-case good practice
- Resources & links - a library of useful stuff!
- Directory of organisations and people
- News and events listings.
Setting up a simple mini-site with this structure can be done very easily. Things to think about are:
- Who will use the mini-site? Are you able to contact key people within your sector across Europe and encourage them to use the mini-site? Most socio-economic sectors have representative European-level networks and organisations who should be able to mediate this engagement
- Can you provide some starting text, images, web links, etc. to populate the mini-site? This obviously helps, but the aim is for people within the sector to add to this
- Hosting: although the site is being hosted by CEH for now, could your organisation consider hosting your mini-site at some point in the future? The site uses the Plone Content Management System. Many organisations successfully host Plone sites, or there are many Plone hosting companies.
Notes
-
If you find yourself lost when using this website, check the 'You are here' bar, that is found just below the main navigation tabs. This will show you where you are in the site.

You can use the site-wide search tool (top right of each screen) to find items in the site. If you wish to restrict your search to just the section you are in at the time, simply check the 'only in current section' box.
