Introduction
|
Natura 2000 presents both challenges and opportunities to businesses and communities living in or near Natura 2000 areas. In order to successfully implement the management and conservation objectives of these sites, a wide range of stakeholders will have to be actively involved. To help foster this engagement, the European Commission wishes to encourage a wide range of affected groups to share their ideas, concerns, problems and solutions, so that good practice can be propagated, adapted and applied. The Natura 2000 Good Practice Exchange website is intended as a tool for enabling this.
Who can use Natura 2000 Good Practice Exchange? The site is free to use and open to all. The site will help people and organisations working in socio-economic sectors such as tourism, forestry, water management and fishing to communicate about the way they incorporate Natura 2000 objectives and necessary management options and measures in their activities. In particular it will encourage the exchange of ideas and best management practice.

Sectoral mini-sites
The Natura 2000 Good Practice Exchange website is a single website with a series of nested ‘mini-sites’ serving different socio-economic sectors. Mini-sites can be created for any relevant socio-economic sector. Permissions can be granted to people allowing them to manage their mini-site on behalf of the sector.
Sharing information on the site
You are welcome to share information on this website. It is quite easy to add resources, links, issues, news, events and other types of information. All we ask is that you register for a user account. Help text is being added to guide through adding content to the site, but for now, if you need help, please contact the site manager, Dr Andrew Sier (details below).
How can I find out more?
Natura 2000 Good Practice Exchange has been developed by Andrew Sier of the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, UK under the EC Natura 2000 Preparatory Actions project. The site is currently hosted by CEH, but the aim is to enable different stakeholder groups to manage their mini-sites (see above).
